Clockwise from top left : Thick-billed Parrot, Blue and Gold Macaw and a Peacock I feel I've neglected the birds from this series... so here's one for them. When we think of wildlife, birds are a major part of it and equally endangered. wildLife series | I believe there is so much we ought to teach our generation and the generations to come about the other forms of life that were meant to live in peaceful co-existence with us (or were we supposed to live in peaceful co-existence with them? Simple play of words... but a completely different way of looking at the scenario). It is a shame that even when we're told that a certain species is endangered, we sympathize for a minute and forget about it the next... not realizing we just allowed it to happen. With that shrug, we sent an entire species to it's extinction. With our ignorance and lack of empathy, we turn our backs on God's wonderful creations. So this is my attempt at bringing to light a few of those creatures who deserve a moment of our time to be recognized as beautiful, gentle, agile or whatever adjectives prolific writers use to describe humans. I'm definitely not the first to do this, and hopefully not the last.

Clockwise from top left : Potto, Cheetahs and a Rhinoceros Hornbill All these shots had something lacking in them and I hesitated to upload full-size shots of them. Mostly, they were taken from a rather long distance, without a tripod/steady hand and with a very hyper 6 year-old kid... so they turned out low-pixelated. Decided to put up a collage instead and make them look sharper. wildLife series | I believe there is so much we ought to teach our generation and the generations to come about the other forms of life that were meant to live in peaceful co-existence with us (or were we supposed to live in peaceful co-existence with them? Yesterday and today's shot share the theme of cats in the wild. They also happen to be one of my favorite animals. Cats, ranging from tigers to cheetahs, from lynx to the fishing cat here, are very close to being extinct. The fishing cat in the picture, is rated as Vulnerable on the IUCN Red List, meaning that it is 'facing a high risk of extinction in the wild'. To learn and see more about this wonderful creature so mercilessly ignored by our settlements, you can watch this video: http://www.bigcatrescue.org/movies/TheBigCatPictureClips/MovieClipFishingCat.htm I was going for a sketchy, painting effect in this one and the blur in the shot I think made it look like that. The coloured-version was a definite no-no here... although I do wish I could have brought out the colours better in it. wildLife series | I believe there is so much we ought to teach our generation and the generations to come about the other forms of life that were meant to live in peaceful co-existence with us (or were we supposed to live in peaceful co-existence with them? Thank you for the wonderful comments on my 100th post ! If only Toby could understand us, she would be as happy and appreciative of them as I am. If you've seen Happy Feet, you'd recognize the title of this shot. It's when the penguin, Mumble tries to communicate with the humans and feels at a loss when he realizes they can't understand him. It's a heartbreaking moment really. (If you'll look closely, the one on the right looks like Lovelace from the movie!) Penguins are being wiped off the planet as we type (quite not to the knowledge of a lot of us). Everything we do effects them. Global warming melts their natural habitat. The plastic and chemicals we use ends up in the ocean and kills them. The fish we take out from the ocean is almost like taking food away from the hands of people who are hungry. Its their food and we've obviously taken over inalienable rights of claiming it because they cannot voice their concerns. That's the most troubling part of it all... a lot of the "leaders" don't sympathize with creatures that cannot speak. They cannot speak, so apparently they have no say in the world affairs. The zoos are no places for them... they need subzero temperatures to survive. Even if we do achieve it, it's statistically proven that their life is severely shortened by years. wildLife series | I believe there is so much we ought to teach our generation and the generations to come about the other forms of life that were meant to live in peaceful co-existence with us (or were we supposed to live in peaceful co-existence with them? 100th to my best friend

			<![CDATA[
Toby. Where do I begin. Do I start with the first day I saw her sitting under our rocking chair and screamed my head off in fright, or the day I couldn't hold back tears in front of so many people, as I saw her for the last time this December while she howled as I put my bags in the car to come back here. I don't know. But I can tell you this that she is as much a part of my childhood as anyone ever will be. She's Toby. My Germanshephard with the heart of a month-old pup, feelings no different than ours and soulful eyes that melt my heart everytime I see our lives reflected in them. I'm no profound writer and I can't conjure up words that glorify at the drop of a hat. But I did want to dedicate this day, the day of my 100th post, to my dogs, Toby (in the picture) and Pongo (who left us a year ago, to a much, much better place with Him). Words won't come to mind and I really wish I had better words to describe my feelings at this moment as I sit here, wishing I was closer to Toby. But then again, no words can describe the bond we share... and she can't understand the words either. The only language she understands is that of emotion -- and the emotions run deeper than words ever could convey... I miss ya, Toby. We'll be together soon. So here's to a man/woman's best friend. I apologize for the rather sad, reminiscing tone of this shot, but I wanted to put up something that meant a lot to me (really do wish I had better pictures of her to remember her by). It so happens that with all the places we've lived in such a short period of time, things, places and people who make up my happy thoughts, have been short-lived too. Hence the reminiscing. But if one asks for celebration on their 100th, this is a celebration of life-long friendship. So yay :) I'll continue the wildlife|series in a couple of days. Until then.

Took this shot yesterday when I went out to take pictures of all the ducks that had come out into the lake in front of our house. This simple scene is a powerful one to all of us after the winter. The colours reflect the fall that we left behind and the good spring time we're promised by all those weather forecast people. Can I hear a Hallelujah !
